Lavender ‘25

Today we addressed a reality you rarely see in homesteading posts: sometimes plants die!

The heat dome was hard on our Lavender plot last year. We ended the year with 22 Hidcote/36 and 2 Phenomenal/36. Why is the hidcote doing so well and the phenomenal not so much? Is it possible the deer or some other little rabbit is eating the phenomenal? I suspect it has more to do with the way the water runs off the peak of the property.

This week it was off to #HanoverFarms in Rockville VA to buy 48 plants. The 4runner decided it did it want to leave C’ville. So guess what? you can get 48 lavender in an Outback! The drive home was intoxicating and worthy of a Spa treatment!

This morning I got the holes dug with the electric auger and 28 of them planted, before some dizziness set in. I immediately stopped working and retreated to rehydrate and enjoy the AC. I suppose my body is still adapting from CA desert life to humidity.

We will plant the other 20 in the evening and then the watering and weeding begins!
